Bell ringing at St Giles’

Bell ringing at St Giles

St Giles’ has a ring of eight bells cast by Gillett & Johnson, a bell foundry in Croydon. They are regarded as one of the best rings in the locality and are very popular with visiting ringers.

Previously St Giles was short of enough ringers to be able to ring all of its eight bells without help from ringers from other towers. However since our successful Open Day, four new ringers were recruited.  We’d be delighted to offer others the opportunity to join us.

Bell ringing is open to anyone of almost any age – our oldest ringer was over 90! You do not have to be able to read music and there is no joining fee. Once you have learnt how to handle a bell safely, you will find, as you progress, that you will be welcome at almost any tower in the land.

Ringing takes place from 5.45pm to 6.30pm before the evening service every Sunday (except the first of the month).
Our practice night is Wednesday – 7.45pm to 9.00pm.

Visitors are always welcome to come and join the ringers.  Alternatively, please contact Anne Frank on 01753 290630.
